Critical
Illness Insurance |
 |
Thanks
to continuing advancement in medical science, today more than ever before,
Canadians face a high probability of surviving a critical illness. Most
people who suffer major illnesses such as a heart attack, stroke or cancer
survive the initial event and continue to live productive lives for many
more years.
Critical
Illness Insurance is essentially for individuals, either single or married,
however it is also of special importance to business owners, partnerships,
corporations and professionals. Benefits can be used for such purposes
as keyperson coverage, buy-sell funding, compensation agreements, employee
benefit programs or to top up disability plans.
This special insurance program provides a tax-free lump sum benefit, regardless
of severity, degree of disability or ability to work. It provides the
necessary liquidity to prevent the erosion of personal and business assets
when a critical illness suddenly and unexpectedly strikes.
Claims
are not subject to interpretation and ongoing qualifications. Instead,
benefits are paid promptly when clearly defined conditions are met. It
also provides relief from financial stress so that the person suffering
from the illness can concentrate on the recuperation process.
Critical
illness insurance is meant to complement your existing coverage, not to
replace it. Life and/or disability insurance provide different types of
coverage and security and therefore should be considered first.
Things
to think about if you were to suffer from a serious illness:
-
Would you need to relocate or make renovations to your home?

you continue to add money to your retirement savings plans?
- How
much money would you need to pay off your existing debts if you were
sick?
