To help understand how time
and relationships impact your future financial needs and obligations, we've
provided this little chart to help you gain a realistic view of the possible
and probable.
In the illustration, you'll
notice the relationship and comparative age difference of each member of the
group as they get older.
At age 35 with a young family
you're concentrating on job advancements, home ownership and the kids education.
Jump ahead a few years, review the ages of the group. In 15 years all are older
and further along the life-cycle. The quest is to ascertain if sufficient wealth
has been or is being accumulated in the interceding years to meet the obligations
of the family. Was enough savings and investment activity formulated to provide
for the retiring parent's, is sufficient income generated to support educational
aspirations of children? If a spouse dies suddenly is enough life insurance
coverage available to support those left behind?
It's become a "sign of the times", that those in middle age are still
supporting adult children within an educational facilities, or realizing that
your own parents may need special support within a short period of time. Understanding
how those issues, and how those life-cycles
impact you financially in the future is the best way of developing and managing
a plan.
