2005 Oakville's Annual Juried Art Show |
I've found the most rewarding aspect to my art, is learning how to see. It may
seem an odd thing to say, as we all use our eyes to see things. Yet we see, not
only with our eyes but with our minds and hearts and our souls. It's this three-way
visual relationship that's on display. Many an artist; whether it be in music,
in word or through images, have upon the onset become oblivious to the aforementioned,
and thus leave their audience in awe to this connectivity - stretching to a point
where the artist will wonder who's divine hand created the work. I believe this
is that drives many an artist to an unbeknownst selfishness of creation.
After 25 odd years as a watercolorist I found acrylics allow a new tempered spontaneity
similar to watercolor; that I've not found in oils. By adding a plaster base I've
been able to build a new dynamic to my landscapes. The formation of texture, and
by design a topographical dimension coupled with dynamic relief obtainable with
the use of cut down hollow core slab doors, adds a exciting visual depth and scope
new to the eye.
